A. Preservation of Existing Trees

Maintaining the existing a total of 8 nos Hopea odorata/ Merawan Siput Jantan trees in the roundabout, three container frames were installed around them to symbolise the industrial development in Batu Kawan. It highlighted the unity between the new container frames and the existing natural elements at the site.

 B.  Animal Species for Die-Cutted Metal

On the frames, some endangered animal figurines, such as Asian Openbill, Stork-Billed Kingfisher, Brahminy Kite, Red Wattled Lapwing, Silver Leaf Langur, Common Palm Civet and Leopard Cat were mounted to represent the wildlife of Batu Kawan. All this species can be found in Batu Kawan and Pulau Pinang.

C. Landscape Upgrading at Junction

Landscape at the intersection of Bandar Cassia roundabout planted with variety species of shrubs and 1 meter height grass mounds. Shrubs are planted at a distance of 0.5 meter from the road curb as a safety measures for pedestrians and cyclists as they are exposed to vehicles around the roundabout.

Pedestrian walkway and bicycle lane were built at the intersection with minimum of 1.5 meter width. The use of pedestrian and bicycle lane can prevent and reduce traffic diversions, through the provision of a comprehensive network of bicycle lane within the urban boundary. This pedestrians and bicycle lane network will connect the whole Bandar Cassia in the next 6 years under the Bandar Cassia bicycle lane project.

At the same time, 24 nos of existing Samanea saman/ Rain Tree are preserved at the intersection. Some treatment were carried out to the trees such as trimming and pruning. All this 24 nos of trees provide a good shade at the intersection thus will enhance the comfortability to the users.

D. Solar Panel

Lighting plays a vital role at Bandar Cassia Roundabout. 20 nos of solar panel were installed at the roundabout with three different lighting fixture included which is LED flood light, LED compound light and LED signage box wording. All this 3 lighting fixtures powered by solar panel with lighting duration of 10 hours per day.

This lighting system helps road users to clearly identify the roundabout as well as a guidance towards the direction ahead.

The installation of solar panel system able to reduce the carbon footprint by not depending on the domestic electrical power system.
